Homeowner shoots at intruder attempting to break into Encino home, police say

A homeowner fired on at least one suspect attempting to break into his home in Encino, police said.

Los Angeles police officers responded at about 10:20 p.m. Thursday to the 3400 block of Red Rose Drive on a report of an attempted burglary.

The husband got out his shotgun and fired several times at the suspect, who was also reportedly armed.

The suspect was dressed in all dark clothing with something covering their face, according to police.

The suspect fled on foot toward Sepulveda Boulevard.

The family told responding officers they thought there may have been a second suspect as well.

Burglary detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department's West Valley Division planned to review area home security cameras for more clues.

The family told police it was unclear if the suspect was hit in the shooting.
