Hit-and-run victim killed in South Los Angeles, dragged for three blocks

A woman was killed Thursday when she was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle and dragged for three blocks in South Los Angeles, authorities said.

Police responded about 1 a.m. to a call reporting a body in the street near the intersection of 84th Place and Central Avenue and located the victim, who died at the scene, said Officer Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

Authorities withheld the name of the woman, who was in her 40s, pending notification of her relatives.

The woman was struck at 81st Street and Central Avenue and dragged by the vehicle to the location where the body was found, Eisenman said. It was unclear if she was in a crosswalk when the accident occurred.

A description of the suspect vehicle or the driver was not immediately available.
