Georgia girl donates refurbished dolls to kids

Samantha Sands is an 11-year old young lady from Rome, Georgia, who has taken it upon herself to find and re-purpose old, beat-up and discarded dolls in order to donate them to kids who may not have the otherwise chance to have a doll.

"Her father and I did not even know what she was doing until she had several dolls done and wanted to find a way to donate them," said Sheri Sands, Samantha's mother.

Sheri and Samantha travel from Rome to Atlanta in search of thrift stores that carry dolls that Samantha can refurbish. "She wants these dolls to be nice gifts, not just some dollar store doll," said Sands.

Currently, Samantha has refurbished 18 dolls, with an additional 10 to go. Samantha makes sure that the dolls look brand new and packages them. The mother and daughter team are working with a resource center in Rome that works with underprivileged families to donate the dolls.

"We are trying really hard to deliver some of the dolls before Christmas," said Sands.
