First weekend of ‘Swarm' project shuts down eastbound 60 freeway

It was the first weekend of the project that could be worse than ‘Carmageddon' – the 60 freeway was shut down for repairs.

The closure stretches from the 15 freeway to the 91 and 215 interchange.

The repair project known as '60 swarm' won't be finished until September. On Saturday, the eastbound lanes were empty as workers began a resurfacing project.

The agency is recommending that motorists travel Interstate 10 or State Route 91 during the shutdowns. Surface streets in Jurupa Valley and Riverside will also be available.

The shutdown will continue all weekend until 5 a.m. Monday.

The heavily used route has not been repaired in more than sixty years.
