Escaped inmate from Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic is recaptured
CASTAIC, Calif. (FOX 11) - A 43-year-old inmate who escaped on Sunday from the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic has been tracked down by scent dogs and rearrested, a deputy said.
The inmate, David Luis Bustamonte, was tracked down at about 3 p.m. in the underbrush near the intersection of the Golden State (5) Freeway and State Route 126 in Castaic, Deputy Tracy Koerner said.
Bustamonte was not present during an inmate count at the center's South Facility, located at 29320 The Old Rd.
"The facility was placed on immediate lockdown to locate Bustamonte within the vast compounds," according to the sheriff's department statement.
