Epic lines coming to an airport near you
TSA says the numbers of people traveling this year is up 7% over last year. There has also been a drop in the number of agents at those screening checkpoints. The combination is longer lines and by the summer travel season epic ones!
The problems include not enough TSA agents, tighter budgets, new security procedures and more people flying.
American Airline spokesman Ross Feinstein says ,"TSA is definitely understaffed at US Airports." Moreover, he says the airline is unhappy because its customers are unhappy.
Social media has been filled with tweets from travelers worried about missing flights and frustration over long lines.
Some travelers say they'll, obviously, have to head to the airport earlier when they need to travel.
TSA is recommending passengers arrive 2 hours prior to domestic flights and 3 hours before an international flight. It's the security lines, though, that really bothers Feinstein. He says this could affect making flights on time.
TSA says it plans to hire 800 new officers at the nation's busiest apts by June 15th and add an extra 25-million dollars in the overtime budget. And, what can you do ... get to the airport earlier. You can also apply for TSA Precheck, but there may be a wait to get authorized.
