Emotional mother speaks out about toddler son's death

In tears,

Mishel Eder recounts the horrific scene Saturday when her 15-month-old son Liam was struck-by a hit and run drunk driver.

"I ran out and saw his stroller in pieces and his favorite frog on the ground. "

"He was the happiest baby. To be ripped away from me is so cruel but I'm not angry. "

He was out for a walk in his stroller with his aunt, when 72-year -old Donna Marie Higgins barreled through an intersection in her SUV, witnesses had to barricade her vehicle so she couldn't get away.

But it was too late for Liam. He was declared brain dead at the hospital and taken off life support Tuesday.

Hundreds came out at community fundraiser for Liam Wednesday evening in Hawthorne. His mother still wearing the blue hospital bracelet with the date of Liam's birth and now also his death.

"My sons name will live on, his death will not be in vain."

A part of him will help others survive..

Liam's kidneys are going to a woman in her 40's, his heart to an infant and lungs to research.

MMA fighter and gym owner Marcus Kowal is Liam's father.

He says ,"there is a god whatever his name is, who wants to see another family happy and kids ok and who doesn't want them to go through what we are going through right now. That's why we decided to donate his organs."

Liam's parents are vowing to fight.

They want to change traffic signals on Hawthorne, and to lower the legal blood alcohol limit to zero.

They're pleading with people, "Please don't drink and drive."

The driver Donna Marie Higgins is now being charged with vehicular manslaughter on top of felony hit and run and suspicion of drunk driving charges.

She's out on 100 thousand dollars bond and is due in court in November.
