Homeless man faces attempted murder charge after woman stabbed in downtown LA

A woman is fighting for her life after being stabbed in the neck by a man experiencing homelessness in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

What we know:

Los Angeles Police Department officials said surveillance footage shows the woman passing the suspect at the intersection of Hope Street and Olympic Boulevard at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 31. Investigators said the video continued to show the moment when the suspect turned around and allegedly stabbed the victim from behind.

A good Samaritan applied pressure to the woman’s wound until paramedics arrived. She was rushed to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

The suspect fled the scene but was later located and arrested. He has been identified by the LAPD as 39-year-old Kenneth Gibson.

Gibson faces a charge of attempted murder.
