Driver leaves passenger dead at scene of single-vehicle crash in South Los Angeles

Authorities said that a driver left her passenger dead at the scene of a crash in South Los Angeles on Thursday morning.

Around 3:15 a.m. an SUV was traveling eastbound at a high-speed rate on the Imperial Highway when it struck a power pole, causing the vehicle to roll over, investigators said. The male passenger in the SUV was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released, pending family notification.

Police are looking for the female driver of the SUV, who fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.

Nearly 3,000 Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers lost power within a four-block radius of the downed power pole.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the Los Angeles Police Department.
