Deadly crash shuts down portion of 5 freeway in Anaheim

California Highway Patrol was investigating a deadly two-car crash on the 5 Freeway in Anaheim resulting in the full closure of the northbound and southbound sides Monday night.

The fatal collision was first reported at about 8:56 p.m. in the area of Disneyland Drive.

According to CHP, a woman involved in the wreck left her vehicle, jumped the center median and was struck and killed by a vehicle as she tried to run across the northbound lanes of the freeway.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP. It was unclear why she left her vehicle and tried to run across the freeway.

Both sides of the 5 Freeway were closed at Euclid for nearly 90 minutes before they reopened about 10:40 p.m., CHP said.

The name of the victim was not disclosed.
