Crews knock down 2-alarm commercial building blaze in South El Monte

SOUTH EL MONTE (CNS) - A two-alarm fire today burned through the roof of a one-story commercial building in South El Monte, forcing crews to fight the flames from outside the structure.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 1:57 p.m. in the 2300 block of Merced Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Crews were forced into a defensive posture as flames roared through the building's roof.

A knockdown was declared at 3:31 p.m. and a search of the premises did not turn up any victims, the fire department reported.
