Coroner confirms ID of Compton bicyclist killed in hit-and-run

The coroner's office on Monday confirmed the identity of a bicyclist struck and killed by a hit-and-run motorist in Compton.

He was Compton resident Darnell Parker, 58, coroner's Investigator Jerry McKibben said.

The crash happened at Bradfield Avenue and Alondra Boulevard early Sunday morning, shortly after midnight, said Sgt. Daniel Martinez of the Sheriff's Compton Station. Parker was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

Parker's daughter-in-law, Tracy Brown, said the crash left Parker's children without a father.

"He has children that are going to need him. They're going to miss out on very important things they can't even share with their dad, and I just think it's sad,'' she said.

Authorities had no description of the hit-and-run vehicle or its driver, who remained at large, Martinez said. Anyone with information regarding the crash was asked to call the Sheriff's Compton Station at (310) 605-6500.
