Child born on side of roadway in South Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11) - A child was born at the side of a roadway in the south Los Angeles area Wednesday.

Carter Jay Zepeda was born in his family's brand new SUV while on the way to the hospital. The parents were en route to a hospital around 3 a.m. when they had to pull over at Slauson and Normandie avenues.

The father, Robin Zepeda, said he knew he needed to seek help from authorities when he saw his newborn's head while driving and pulled over.

Mom delivered the baby while dad was on the phone with 911.

Paramedics arrived and took both mother and baby to the hospital.

Carter is the Zepeda's third child.
