Castle View Elementary students return to class after parent takes teacher hostage

It was a welcome back to school like no other Monday at Castle View Elementary in Riverside.

Emotions were running high because the last time the kids were in school, they had to be evacuated by police officers. The father of one of their classmates attacked a teacher last week, breaking his nose and then took his daughter's teacher, 70-year-old Linda Montgomery, hostage.

The swat team eventually rescued the teacher, shooting and killing the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Luvelle Kennon.

School was then cancelled for the rest of the week.

But Monday was all about making the kids feel welcome and safe at their school with plenty of Riverside police officers and firefighters on hand to greet them.
