A Carson man who killed his wife of more than four decades after she served him with divorce papers was sentenced Tuesday to 35 years to life in state prison.

Benjamin Christino Ramirez, 69, was convicted last month of first-degree murder for the Oct. 5, 2018, killing of his 67-year-old spouse, Fely.

She had served her husband with divorce papers and remained at their home to talk, according to Deputy District Attorney Abigail Baron, who said Ramirez shot the woman in the head and chest and then left the home.

Her family discovered her body later that day.

Ramirez was taken into custody a day after his wife's killing, released from jail several days later, then re-arrested nearly two weeks later.

He has remained behind bars since then.
