Burglary suspect kills pedestrian during pursuit in Long Beach

An innocent bystander was killed after a burglary turned into a police pursuit in Long Beach late Tuesday night, authorities said.

Officers with the Long Beach Police Department responded to a burglary call at a marijuana-type establishment in the 2100 block of West Gaylord Street.

During the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle hit a pedestrian who was crossing the street with his dog at the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and West 6th Street. The driver did not stop.

The victim was pronounced dead the scene. His identity has not been released.

The pursuit continued until the suspect's vehicle hit another car at Locust Ave. and E. 36th St., where officers were able to take him into custody.
