Brush Fire Burns 30 Acres Along I-5 Freeway Near Castaic

CASTAIC (CNS/FOX 11) - A brush fire apparently sparked by a car that went over the side of the road scorched 20 to 30 acres Thursday near the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway in the Castaic area.

The so-called Five Fire was reported near Templin Highway about noon.

The blaze was 60 percent contained as of about 2 p.m. and crews were entering into the "mop-up'' mode, said Angeles National Forest spokeswoman Sherry Rollman.

The firefight initially involved air tankers and water-dropping helicopters, she said.

There were reports of a vehicle sparking the blaze, but the official cause remains under investigation, Rollman said.

Two northbound freeway lanes were closed while firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, the California Highway Patrol reported.
