Boy dies after being hit by truck in Tustin
TUSTIN, Calif. (FOX 11/ CNS) - A 12-year-old boy was fatally struck by a pickup truck in Tustin, police said Saturday.
The boy was later identified as Tustin resident Carson Shortes, according to the coroner's office.
The fatal accident was reported around 8 p.m. Friday on Jamboree Road just north of Champion Way, according to Sgt. Andy Birozy of the Tustin Police Department.
The boy reportedly ran into the roadway, Birozy said.
Paramedics rushed the child to Children's Hospital of Orange County where he died from his injuries at 8:38 p.m. Friday, according to the coroner's office.
One local media station reported that Shortes was a runaway who suffered from autism, but police were not immediately able to confirm those details.
The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, Birozy said. Alcohol and drugs are not thought to be factors in the crash, he added.
