Body of 17-year-old found in converted garage fire in Hyde Park

LOS ANGELES (FOX 11 / CNS) - A deadly fire at a home in Hyde Park this morning takes the life of a 17-year-old boy and fire officials are investigating it as a case of arson.

Fire officials are telling FOX 11 this all happened in a detached garage in that four people were living in at the time. Firefighters were able to knock those flames out fairly quickly within 15 minutes or so, but unfortunately they found the body of a seventeen-year-old boy inside who was just about to head off to college.

The grandfather of the boy who died in Tuesdays fire wants you to know one thing, 'He didn't gangbang, he didn't smoke cigarettes, he didn't cuss, he was the best kid you'd ever wanna meet.'

A man who lived in that house tells FOX 11 he wasn't able to save the boy.

And he says, It was his own roommate who set the fire that killed him.

Police on scene confirmed they detained a woman who lived in the house.

The boy's grandfather says he was trying to escape the flames with his older brother, but he tripped and they got separated. He never made it out

A 22-year-old man, believed to be the teen's brother, was taken to a hospital for treatment of smoke exposure and was in good condition, Humphrey said.
