Arson suspected in string of fires overnight in North Hollywood

Five suspected arson fires that began in vegetation damaged a vehicle and a window of a house Monday in a neighborhood in the North Hollywood area, but no one was hurt.

The small blazes were reported shortly after 3 a.m. in the 6100 block of Carpenter Avenue, the 6300 block of Morella Avenue and the 6200 block of Radford Avenue, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angles Fire Department.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fires, which were believed to have been intentionally set, Humphrey said.

A vehicle was damaged on Carpenter Avenue, and a house window was damaged by heat on Morella Avenue, he said.

Anyone with information on a suspicious person who was on foot, on a bicycle, or in a vehicle in the area at the time of the fires -- or who has security video that might help solve the case -- was urged to call LAFD arson investigators at (213) 893-9800.
