Armed suspect killed in second officer-involved shooting in South LA in as many days

One man was killed Sunday in the second officer-involved shooting in South LA involving the LAPD in as many days.

Officers went to the area of 45th Street and Ascot Avenue after 4 p.m. in response to a report of a man with a gun, said Officer Aareon Jefferson of the LAPD's Media Relations Section.

They observed two males in the area, including one who matched the description of the armed suspect, Jefferson said.

While trying to stop the males, an officer-involved shooting occurred, he said. The wounded suspect was taken to a hospital, where he died. His name was not immediately released.

A firearm was found at the scene, Jefferson said.

A second male who was arrested at the scene was questioned, determined to be a witness and released, authorities said Monday.

``The officers were wearing body cameras, which will be reviewed,'' Jefferson said.
