Argument leads to Compton hit-and-run, police say

The sheriff's department identified a suspect who allegedly struck a man in Compton with a vehicle following a fight, causing fatal injuries, as Frankie Mazen III, who is wanted for questioning.

Mario Melbourne Jr. of Long Beach was fatally injured about 10:55 p.m. Monday in the area of Cypress and Crane streets, authorities said.

The suspect, whom the friends claim was a friend of Melbourne, drove to the group, exited his vehicle, and began arguing with the victim, Deputy Kelvin Moody of the Sheriff's Information Bureau said. The argument led to a fist
fight.

The suspect re-entered his vehicle and began to drive away but then made a U-turn and struck Melbourne, Moody said. The suspect fled eastbound on Cypress Street in a gray BMW, which was recovered a short distance away, Moody said.

Anyone with information regarding Mazen's whereabouts or on the case in general was urged to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
