Apartment building in Canoga Park goes up in flames injuring several people
LOS ANGELES - A two-story garden-style apartment building in Canoga Park went up in flames late Thursday night during a time of strong winds in the area.
The Los Angeles Fire Department says strong Santa Ana winds stoked the flames and made it difficult for the 52 firefighters battling the blaze to quickly douse the flames, but even so, crews extinguished the fire in 24 minutes.
Officials say five people were treated by paramedics for smoke-related injuries and one person had to be taken to the hospital. Their condition is unknown.
The fire broke out at about 11:41 p.m. in the 8500 block of N. International Avenue. It's unknown if any firefighters were injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
