2 killed, 1 hurt in South Los Angeles shooting

A person shot two relatives on Thursday, one fatally, during a family dispute in the South Los Angeles area, and was then fatally shot by another family member, police said.

The shootings occurred about 11 a.m. in the 1100 block of West 55th Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Two people died at the scene and the third person was taken to a hospital with wounds that were not life-threatening, police said.

LAPD Cmdr. Phil Tingirides told news outlets that everyone involved in the violence was related.

"This is a really tragic situation,'' Tingirides said.

Tingirides said there was a family dispute, a fight broke out and someone pulled out a gun, killing one person and wounding another. Another family member then retrieved another gun and fatally shot the suspect, Tingirides said.

Gender and age information was not immediately available on those involved in the dispute.
