The dogs, 167 German Shepherds, were found last Thursday at a property on Donnell Road. The Candler County Sheriff's Office said 163 of the dogs were rescued, three had to be humanely euthanized, and one escaped from the rescue groups.

The Atlanta Humane Society said their team assessed the scene then provided care to the most medically in-need animals at the location. AHS shared several heartbreaking images last week of a few of the dogs.

Deputies arrested the owner of the property and charged him with animal cruelty. More charges are expected.

"At this time, our first priority is the health and safety of these animals, so we are not yet looking for supplies or adopters," AHS said. "Your donation is urgently needed to help us provide exactly what they need right now."
