A brush fire broke out Tuesday in the Aliso Canyon area near Porter Ranch and quickly burned about 15 acres.

The Los Angeles Fire Department received multiple 911 calls starting at 9:18 p.m. about the fire in the 12800 block of Tampa Avenue, just north of the Porter Ranch area, according to Erik Scott of the LAFD.

More than 100 LAFD firefighters in unified command with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were summoned to the scene of the rapidly growing fire that was burning downhill, Scott said.

No formal evacuations have been announced as no structures were threatened, Scott said, but conditions have provided challenges for firefighters including difficult access for ground crews and winds blowing 20-38 mph, Scott said.

The incident commanders were taking the natural gas fields in that area into consideration as they developed a plan to extinguish the fire, Scott said.

News media outlets reported the cause of the fire was believed to be downed power lines.
