Both record high temps and snow expected in SoCal this week

Both record high temperatures and snow were forecast for the next three days in parts of Southern California by the National Weather Service on Sunday.

A classic fall Santa Ana wind was predicted to continue broiling the Southland Sunday, and some beach locations might hit 90 degrees Sunday as air blows through mountains, and is compressed and heated, the NWS said.

Highs in the 80s and nudging over 90 were predicted for Sunday.

By 11 a.m., it was 85 degrees at Pacific Palisades and Fullerton, 84 degrees at Garden Grove and Long Beach, and 83 degrees at Manhattan Beach and Huntington Beach, according to NWS stations.

But, a sweeping low pressure system sweeping in from the Gulf of Alaska would bring rain north of L.A.. and turn off the hot winds by Tuesday, forecasters said.

Rain might fall in the flatlands of the Los Angeles and orange county coastal zones starting Tuesday, but would be more likely north of the urban area, the NWS said.

Snow could fall in local mountains as temperatures drop from record-hot to below normal, a trend that was to continue through Thanksgiving.
