6.9 Magnitude earthquake shakes areas near the Solomon Islands

The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting that a magnitude-6.9 earthquake has struck in waters off of the Solomon Islands.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami watch for Hawaii following the early Friday temblor. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The quake 54 miles (87.6 kilometers) west-southwest of Kirakira occurred at a depth of about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), according to the USGS.
