Arul Mathur is a high school senior in Northern California. After he was nearly forced to evacuate his home because of a nearby wildfire, he decided he might be able to help. He designed an innovative fire suppression device called F.A.C.E. He put it on Kickstarter, and it funded in one day.

Joel Berg, CEO of Hunger Free America, a national nonpartisan nonprofit organization, is visiting Los Angeles as part of an 8,000-mile coast-to-coast journey this summer to shine a light on the continuing national hunger crisis, to meet with those working on the front lines of hunger, and to advocate for long-term, public policy solutions to food insecurity. He joined us to talk about the problem of many people not getting enough food.

Retired VCFD Battalion Chief sets out on 3,000 mile bike ride from Santa Monica to New York
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11, a group of firefighters and retired firefighters are about to take a three thousand mile journey across the country-on bikes! Their epic road trip will begin at Santa Monica pier, and end 40 days later at ground zero in New York. Along the way, they also hope to raise awareness of firefighting related illnesses including cancer, mental health, and severely wounded veterans. Steve Winter, a retired Battalion Chief with Ventura County Fire Department, is participating in the ride.
