What do police in Northern California and Bruce Lee have in common?

A Northern California police department is turning to a martial arts tool to fight crime.

In Anderson, which is just south of Redding, police officers will be getting nunchucks-- the same kind of weapon used by Bruce Lee.

They're two sticks joined by a metal chain, or in this case, two plastic bars connected with a nylon rope.

The PD says it can be used to strike suspects if needed, but there's another advantage.

Case in point, Sergeant Day says the nunchucks can be used to restrain someone by locking their hand, elbow or ankle.

Officers must first pass a 16 hour training program before being certified.
