Wednesday's Child: Lovely Lazae in search of a forever home

Lazae (2003) is a warm, friendly and engaging teen. She's also outgoing and athletic, and does well in school. For those who know her, and as we've discovered for ourselves, honesty and integrity shined through in Lazae's character.

Lazae hopes to be a police officer someday. Equipped with her virtues and abilities, and her love for big dogs, Lazae distinctively hopes to be a K-9 office. Thanks to the Los Angeles Police Department's (LAPD) Parker Foundation, Lazae was invited to spend an afternoon at the iconic Los Angeles Police Academy in Elysian Park.

LAPD K-9 Officer, Laurie Harrington was Lazae's mentor for the day. Amidst all the training activities that were happening at the Academy, Officer Harrington provided some rudimentary trainings for Lazae so she can work with her (Harrington's) partner, "Champ" - a Labrador retriever and bomb detection dog.

Lazae learned basic K-9 handling commands (both verbal and gestures) and along with everything else, trust building with the police dog. Under the supervision of Officer Harrington, Lazae successfully executed the orders for Champ to search for the hidden simulated explosive device. The rest of the afternoon was spent shadowing Officer Harrington and a behind-the-scenes tour of the nation's most elite law enforcement training academy.

In addition to her personal attributes of honesty and integrity, Lazae has all the pre-requisites to be a police officer. She excels in school with her favorite subjects being Writing and English for all the report writing police officers do, and History for the genuine interest in the historical memory of the communities she will serve. Her athleticism in running track which will add to the physical abilities needed for the job.

What Lazae wants before all else is a forever family that will provide her with encouragement, support and stability to realize her educational and professional dreams. We're putting out an APB (all-points bulletin) to find that adoptive family Laze deserves. Tune in to Wednesday's Child and then call to learn more about adoption at 1-866-921-ADOPT (2367).
