Two CHP officers injured in 405 Freeway multi-vehicle crash
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. - Two officers with the California Highway Patrol were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on the southbound 405 Freeway prompting lane closures in Fountain Valley early Friday morning.
The collision occurred around 2:45 a.m. on the southbound 405 Freeway near the Warner Avenue exit when the driver of a white Toyota Prius struck the back of a CHP patrol car. The CHP SUV was parked on the freeway monitoring lane closures for Caltrans construction work.
Both officers were conscious when they were taken to a local hospital, according to CHP.
One of the officers suffered major injuries, while the other offices suffered moderate injuries, CHP confirmed.
The driver of one of the involved vehicles was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, according to CHP.
The driver of a silver sedan that was also involved in the crash was taken into custody on suspicion of a DUI.
The southbound lanes remained closed from Warner Ave to Brookhurst Street while authorities conducted their investigation.
The lanes were reopened by 7:30 a.m.
