Teacher arrested at El Monte High School on warrant for lewd and lascivious acts with a minor

A teacher was arrested at El Monte High School on Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor in 2018, police said.

Miguel Yvan Lazo, 60, was arrested by the El Monte Police Department on a felony arrest warrant for lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under 14 years of age.

Authorities said that in 2018, officers responded to a local hospital emergency room to investigate a report that a female juvenile had been sexually assaulted by a family member. That family member was later identified as Lazo, police said in a press release Tuesday.

The case was submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney's office for review, the arrest warrant was issued and served Tuesday by the El Monte Police Department. Lazo was arrested on school grounds, according to authorities.

His arrest and the investigation does not involve any allegations related to his employment with the El Monte Union High School District, police said.

Lazo is a math teacher at El Monte High School, according to the school's website.

Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact the Beaumont Police Department Detective Bureau at 951-769-8500.
