Suspect in custody after standoff with police on USC campus

A man suspected of engaging in lewd behavior at University of Southern California's Edward L. Doheny Jr. Memorial Library was taken into custody Saturday after a standoff with police, authorities said.

The incident began about 4 p.m. at the library at 3550 Trousdale Parkway, Sgt. J. Gomez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Southwest Station said.

The man reportedly attacked a woman, got away from campus police and barricaded himself inside the library, Gomez said.

USC reported at 5:35 p.m. that the unarmed suspect was taken into custody and that he had engaged in lewd behavior in the library.

The library was evacuated for the police activity and had not yet been reopened.
