South Pasadena home red-tagged after broken water line causes driveway collapse
SOUTH PASADENA, Calif. (FOX 11) - A broken water line caused a driveway to collapse Tuesday night at a home in South Pasadena, forcing several area residents to evacuate.
The incident was reported just before 7:30 p.m. at a two-story house in the 1800 block of Hanscom Drive.
Firefighters said the broken water pipe caused the ground to sink. As the driveway began collapsing, a gas line was also ruptured.
The homeowners of 39 years were coming home just as the driveway was sinking.
"We got home. We heard the water running. We heard the creaking of the driveway, the concrete driveway, and as soon as we got the cars off, that's when it started collapsing," said Bob Lynes.
The home was red-tagged and the utilities were turned off.
Four other properties were evacuated for precautionary reasons, authorities said.
