Police investigating deadly officer-involved shooting in South LA

Police were investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting on Monday morning in South Los Angeles.

According to Los Angeles Police Department's Southeast Division, officers were sent to the 16700 block of Denver Avenue at about 6:40 a.m. on a report of a family dispute with shots fired.

"As officers were responding, there was additional information that the suspect was in the intersection of Figueroa (Street) and Gardena Boulevard with a firearm,'' a police statement said.

"As officers arrived at that intersection, there was an officer-involved shooting,'' police said. "The suspect was struck by gunfire, and pronounced deceased at scene.''

Authorities withheld his name, pending notification of his relatives.

"It appears as though the suspect fired at the officers,'' police said. "There is a bullet hole in the passenger door of the police car.''

A firearm was recovered at the scene, police said. No officers were injured.

The shooting remains under investigation.
