Person killed in crash where big rig caught fire on freeway in Garden Grove

One person was killed in a fiery, two-vehicle crash Sunday morning that involved a big rig going over the center divider on the (22) Freeway in Garden Grove.

A 26-year-old man, who was a resident of Irvine, was arrested in connection with the crash, according to sources at the scene.

The crash on the eastbound freeway at Valley View Street occurred a little before 4 a.m., the California Highway Patrol reported, and another vehicle as well as the big rig caught fire.

A Sigalert was issued at 4:13 a.m., closing the westbound and eastbound lanes of the freeway at Springdale Street indefinitely.

A representative from the coroner's office was called out to the scene at 4:43 a.m. And the victim was pronounced dead.

The big rig driver declined medical treatment.
