Mother's gravestone can't be found at cemetery
SAN CLEMENTE, CA (FOX 11) - Imagine going to the cemetery on Mother's Day to visit your loved one's grave and you can't find it. That's exactly what happened to San Clemente native Mandy McCormack and she wants answers.
Mandy and her family went to her grandmothers grave in north Hollywood and couldn't find her burial plot.
"I was angry. my mom was upset. Yesterday was Mother's Day and my mom cried in the car."
Mandy says she flagged down two grounds keepers at Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial cemetery to help locate her grandmother's grave. They dug up multiple headstones under inches of sod.
"They dug up a couple different head stones first," Mandy said. "Right away I knew that I wasn't the first person with having problems finding their loved ones."
We reached out to the cemetery.
The cemetery sent FOX 11 this statement saying in part -
"We are addressing the maintenance concern that has been brought to our attention. We value the relationships we have with our client families and encourage anyone with concerns to contact us directly."
Mandy says there's no excuse.
"They gotta have more people taking care of the final resting place of so many loved ones and I hope it gets their attention."
The company that runs the cemetery is called dignity memorial - families say that's ironic considering how poorly they are treating the graves of so many.
