LA's Most Wanted: Limo driver killed during carjacking

Bob Gooch was working as a limousine driver when he pulled into the Thrifty Gas Station at Azusa Avenue and Main Street in La Puente.

It was Tuesday night, July 29, 2003. Today, the station has been re-branded and sells USA Gas.

At about 11:40 p.m., a young man walked up to the limo and offered to wash the windshield in exchange for money. Gooch told him thank you, but no thanks. The man continued to talk to Gooch.

Witnesses say the man spoke in English but sounded as though he could be bi-lingual.

When Gooch finished refueling the limo, the young man jumped into the driver's seat. Gooch attempted to stop the man from driving away, but he was dragged about 40 feet before the limo hit a pole.

At the point the carjacker backed-up and deliberately ran over Gooch who was on the ground, helpless. He died of his injuries.

Later, the limo was found abandoned in Hacienda Heights, about three miles away.

Anyone with any information about the carjacking and murder is asked to call Detective Margarita Barron at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau: (323) 890-5500, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
