LAPD searching for semi-truck driver involved in fatal hit-and-run
BOYLE HEIGHTS, Calif. (FOX11) - The Los Angeles Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating the driver of a semi-truck involved in the fatal hit-and-run of a bicyclist.
Officers say around 9:30 p.m. Friday night a bicyclist was traveling southbound on Lorena st. approaching 8th st. when he lost control of his bike and fell on the street.
Police say the victim ended up under a 40-foot box trailer and got stuck under the trailer's tires.
According to police the driver of the truck failed to stop and render aid. The cyclist died on scene.
The Los Angeles Coroner's Office has identified the bicyclist as 24-year-old Jaime Ramirez, from the City of Maywood.
A witness was able to follow the truck and photographed the license plate of the trailer. However, detectives were not successful in finding a match.
The collision was captured on video surveillance. Police say the semi-truck is an unknown make and model, all white, with a sleeper cab, and white rims. The 40-foot box trailer appears to be all white.
According to officers the semi-truck and trailer did not have any obvious company logos.
