LAPD motorcycle officer injured in hit-and-run crash on 105 Freeway in Lynwood
LYNWOOD, Calif. (FOX 11) - A Los Angeles Police Department motorcycle officer was injured Monday in a hit-and-run crash on a freeway in Lynwood, authorities said.
The crash was reported about 5:35 a.m. on the westbound 105 Freeway west of the 710 Freeway, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The unidentified 52-year-old officer was in the carpool lane when a driver of an SUV crossed the double yellow lines from the far left main lane, causing the vehicle to strike the right side of the officer's 2016 BMW motorcycle, according to the CHP.
The officer, who is assigned to the LAPD's Central Traffic Division, was thrown from the bike and landed in the center median. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, according to the CHP.
The hit-and-run vehicle was tentatively described as a silver or gray BMW X5 SUV, with possible damage to its left side, the CHP reported.
