La Habra man arrested in connection with body found inside burned car in Pomona

Pomona police have arrested a 26-year-old La Habra man in connection with the murder of David Phillip Pena whose body was found inside a burned car on Sept. 20.

Gerardo Zendejas was taken into custody on Sept. 26 by Pomona Police Special Investigations Unit and the Major Crimes Task Force in La Habra. He was booked on murder charges at Pomona City Jail.

Investigators say police officers were called to the 1400 block of S. Park Avenue in Pomona early in the morning on Sept. 20 after dispatch received calls of shots fired and a car being set on fire on the street.

The victim was parked and sitting in his vehicle after a night of work when a dark-colored vehicle pulls alongside him and its occupants open fire on the victim hitting him several times, according to Pomona police. Authorities say the victim's car was set on fire immediately after the shooting.
