Huntington Beach woman, dog reported missing while camping in Bristlecone Pine Forest

Its day three of a massive multi-agency search to find a missing camper and her dog.

Sheryl Powell, 60, of Huntington Beach, went missing on July 12th while camping near Grandview Campground in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest area in Inyo County.

Sheryl was reported missing by her husband. The Inyo County Sheriff's Office says she exited their car to take the dog to the bathroom while Mr. Powell re-positioned the car. Shortly after moving the car, Mr. Powell wasn't able to locate his wife or their dog.

After searching for nearly an hour he reported her missing to law enforcement, the sheriff's office says.

Mrs. Powell is described as an experienced hiker. She is 5'3", 120 pounds, with brown hair, and brown eyes. The sheriff's Office says she may be wearing a purple top. The small 5-pound black and white dog has a red leash.

Several search and rescue agencies from across the state are actively searching for her.

Her family has set up a GoFundMe for the search effort.
