Man charged with arson after fire breaks out at shipping yard in Wilmington

A man was taken into custody in connection with a fire that broke out at a shipping container yard in the Wilmington area.

Mark Munoz was arrested on suspicion of arson of property, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. He is being held on $50,000 bail.

The fire broke out Wednesday afternoon at a container yard on the 1400 block of North Alameda Street.

According to the fire department, the yard contained shipping containers, tires, and other stored item.

There were early reports of loud explosions heard in the area, prompting a hazmat investigation however, the loud noises turned out to be tires exploding.

Welding materials were found on scene, but all canisters were in tact and did not contribute to the fire, the department reported.

The nearby railway was closed through the Alameda Corridor.
