Car plunges into water in San Pedro, driver escapes

SAN PEDRO, Calif. (FOX 11) - Los Angeles firefighters responded to a vehicle that plunged into the waters in San Pedro late Friday afternoon.

A single-vehicle became submerged after going off the roadway at 400 S Navy Way at about 4:55 p.m. Fire officials say the driver of the car managed to escape.

They believe the driver was the only occupant of the car at the time of the incident, but a team of fireboats was dispatched to the scene to check on the submerged vehicle and make sure no one else was inside the car.

The incident is under investigation.
