Brea PD makes driver feel like a 'dummy' for carpool violation

A local driver is feeling like a dummy when he was caught by Brea Police for driving solo in the carpool lane.

Wednesday evening, a pickup truck suddenly exited the carpool lane on the northbound 57 Freeway within striking distance of Brea Police motorcycle officer. The officer proceeded to pull the truck over for a potential unsafe lane change.

When the officer approached the driver's open window to warn him about being more careful when changing lanes, he then noticed something strange.

The second "passenger" in the man's truck was actually a female mannequin - dressed in a black hoodie.

When questioned, the driver admitted to have used the mannequin to "fake" his way using the carpool lane for some time, Brea Police said.

"Now he will just have to resign himself to sitting in traffic like everyone else."

The pickup truck driver was issued a citation for a carpool lane violation.

The mannequin got away with a warning.

The officer with Brea Police snapped a photo of the mannequin and later tweeted two simple words: "Nice try."
