Barricaded suspect in Anaheim claims to have bomb

A police standoff in Anaheim Monday evening has ended with the suspect being taken into custody after claiming to be armed with a bomb.

The Anaheim Police Department says officers located a stolen car at Katella and State College at about 6:45 p.m. and saw a male suspect run from the car and onto a balcony before eventually jumping onto the ground floor patio of a nearby apartment.

Police say the man barricaded himself and claimed he was armed with a gun and a bomb. The Anaheim Police Department's SWAT team and the Orange County Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad were on scene.

Authorities closed Katella Avenue between State College and Stadium Crossing with evacuations in that immediate area, according to Anaheim police.

The public is asked to avoid the area until police conclude their on-scene investigation. The suspect was taken into custody at about 9:30 p.m. after police fired bean bag rounds and used a K-9.

No further details were immediately known.
