7-month-old child dies at Hawthorne day care facility, police say

A seven-month baby died at a child care facility in Hawthorne, authorities said Thursday.

Officers responded about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to a call of a child not breathing at a licensed residential day care facility in the 2300 block of 116th Street, according to a statement from the Hawthorne Police Department.

By the time officers arrived at the home, the child had been pronounced dead by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the statement said.

Police investigated the infant's death, but no arrests were reported. The gender and name of the child were not released.

The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office will determine the cause of death.
