3 people killed in Newport Beach home, suspect in custody

Three people were found dead Wednesday night at a Newport Beach home and one person believed to be responsible for the deaths has been taken into police custody.

The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Camden Burton Nicholson, of Newport Beach. He was booked on suspicion of killing his parents and another woman in the Newport Beach gated community.

The victims were identified on Friday by Orange County sheriff's officials as Richard Nicholson, 64, Kim Nicholson, 6I, both of Newport Beach, and Maria Morse, 57, of Anaheim.

At about 9 p.m. Wednesday, Newport Beach police received a call from the Irvine Police Department regarding a welfare check at 36 Palazzo after Irvine police came into contact with a man at the emergency room in Irvine Medical Center, according to Heather Rangel of the Newport Beach Police Department.

Officers went to the home in a gated community and found three people, two women and a man, dead inside, she said.

"It appears that all the involved parties were known to each other and there is no ongoing threat to the area," Rangel said.

The man at the hospital was being questioned by detectives, who conducted a homicide investigation at the home, she said.

The motive for the killings remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about this incident was asked to call Detective Prince at 949-644-3762.
