14 freeway reopens hours after being shutdown due to Tick Fire

It was a traffic nightmare as the 14 freeway was shut down for much of Friday due to the massive Tick Fire burning in Canyon Country.

From SkyFOX the freeway between Golden Valley and Escondito Canyon looked like a ghost town… empty. It was shut down at 3:15 a.m. shortly after flames crossed the Antelope Valley Freeway.

After hours of being stuck on the freeway many drivers were happy to see traffic moving again. The northbound lanes reopened shortly before 4 p.m. and all southbound lanes are in the process of reopening.

Big rig drivers like Carlos Sanchez were miserable waiting hour after hour, watching other frustrated drivers and taking Facebook pictures to pass the time.

"It's bad over here. We’re waiting and waiting,” Sanchez told FOX 11.

Another driver was taking her kids to Six Flags Magic Mountain. But getting there didn't seem likely.

Ramon Lindera wasn't happy either, he couldn't get to where he wanted to go. David Cruz was also frustrated as he had appointments to get too and work, but couldn't get things done because of the closure.

Carla Ramirez, in a Wilma Flintstone costume, was returning from a Lancaster Halloween Party when she got stuck on a side road at the Soledad Canyon Exit of the 14. It wasn't a "yabba dabba doo time" for her or anyone except, maybe, Juan Cerda who told FOX 11 being retired he had "all the time in the world."
